Obituary for Edgar Eugene "Ed" Yancey

Edgar Eugene "Ed" Yancey, age 77 of 1563 Greenlawn Ave., Covington, died Thursday July 24, 2014 at the Woodlands in Clifton Forge. He was born June 30, 1937 in Killarney, West Virginia to the late Hilda Marie Young Yancey and John William Yancey. He retired from Hercules Inc. and A.E.T. of Covington as the Superintendent of Safety. After retirement he worked as a car salesman for Dressler Motors in Covington and DD Kerns Construction Co. as a Safety Officer. He was a member of the Covington Baptist Church where he served as Church Deacon and a member of the Choir, he also enjoyed traveling on Mission Trips with the church. He was a coach with the Covington Little League Baseball program for several years and also served as a trainer for the Covington Cougar football team, and was past Governor of the Covington Moose Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines where he served as a flight line mechanic. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Jack Dempsey Yancey, sisters Mary Kellen Phipps, and Rinda Lee Shannon. Also three infant brothers Billy Joe Yancey, Thomas Earl Yancey, Richard William Yancey; and a infant sister Nora Alice Yancey. He is survived by his wife Peggy Arrington Yancey; two sons, John Everette Yancey and wife Michelle of Middleburg, Fl., Major Joseph R. Yancey, M.D. and wife Susie of Springfield, Va. ; a daughter, Erin Huffman and husband Chris of Covington; two sisters Janie Marie Coughenour and husband Dean, Rebecca Jane Ray and husband Jack; seven grandchildren, Sarah Yancey, Roman Yancey, Rachel Yancey, Benjamin Yancey, Tyler Huffman, Brayden Huffman and Nate Michie; an aunt Ilene Angell; two brother in laws, Paul Phipps and Joe Shannon; one sister in law, Sandra Yancey; also a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Covington Baptist Church with the Reverend Ted Fusion officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dave Willis, Kyle Moore, Latane Brugh, Stan Parham, John Woodzell and Wes Walker. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, also one hour prior to the service on Monday at Covington Baptist Church.
