Dorothy Mae "Dot" Johnson (Thomas)
Dorothy Mae “Dot” Thomas Johnson, age 86, of 201 Commerce Avenue, Iron Gate, Virginia died Monday, September 5, 2016 at The Woodlands in Clifton Forge. Dot was born August 4, 1930 in Clifton Forge to the late William E. and Lillie Buriell Thomas. She was a Clerk in the Surgery Suite of Alleghany Regional Hospital for many years, and also worked for VEPCO, Hercules, and Mizzie. She was a council member for the Town of Iron Gate from February 2006 until June of 2008, and a member of First Baptist Church of Iron Gate, where she served as secretary of the church, and also volunteered as a foster grandparent at Mountain View Elementary School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an aunt, Mary Hanna. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William Harvey “Billy” Johnson; four daughters, Elizabeth Hunter of Covington, Brenda Waldron of Radford, Karen Allen and husband Attell of Richmond, and Lynne Faye Johnson of Iron Gate; three sons, Harvey Johnson of Roanoke, Kenny Johnson and wife Sharon of Covington, and Jerome Johnson of Covington; five sisters, Lilly Hughes of Clifton Forge, Shirley Mansfield and husband Reverend Ed Mansfield of Clifton Forge, Carolyn Barnette and husband Reverend Matthew T. Barnette, Sr. of Clifton Forge, Gloria Roland and husband Frank of Virginia Beach, and Priscilla Thomas of Clifton Forge; three brothers, Norman Thomas and wife Roberta of Covington, Charles Thomas of Connecticut, and Ronnie Thomas of Florida; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members; and special friends, Peggy Ham, Steve Vess, Ruth Altizer, and Ron Dowd. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 1:00 PM in Main Street Baptist Church, Clifton Forge with Reverend Harold Preston, officiant, and Reverend Greg Scott, eulogist. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
