Obituary for Corbin Miller Reynolds III

Corbin Miller Reynolds III, age 104, of Glen Wilton, Virginia died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Carillon Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Corbin was a community leader in northern Botetourt County. His long life and love of service enabled him to work in many ways to help others. He was a charter member of the Glen Wilton Fire Department literally helping build its first building with a Sears Building Guide. He organized the Glen Wilton Wild Life Club in the 1940’s, organized and coached Pony League and recreational league baseball teams, played baseball over 4 decades, beginning with pickup games of youth to 15 years on the semipro Westvaco teams, to league play in Botetourt County. He was active in the Eagle Rock Ruritan Club, The PTA of the schools of his children, the Botetourt School Consolidation effort that produced the building of three new high schools; James River, Lord Botetourt and Central Academy in the mid-late 1950’s. In a search for developing a community water system, he helped organize the Demonstration Water Project through TAP in Roanoke, served 6 terms as its president. That group became the Water Project and the model for the formation of the Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project serving 7 states from Delaware to Florida and similar projects that have become a national network. Hunting, fishing and baseball were his favorite vocations. He fished from the native trout streams of the mountains, to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His hunting legend is widely known. His greatest prey was the turkey. He was a pro, hunting and killing over 125, at 95 he killed three, with one shot at his secret hunting spot. His walk with his Lord included him being a long life member and 104 years of attendance in the Glen Wilton Presbyterian Church, serving many positions including faithful worker of the Fincastle Peaks Presbytery, Elder, later Elder Emeritus. His life was focused on serving others and growing God’s Kingdom. Bud was the son of the late Corbin M. Reynolds Jr and the late Margaret Lillian Anderson Reynolds. He was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Ruby Maydian Reynolds. Their home was a haven of love, laughter, sharing, caring and visitors. His skill at recounting 100 years of tales entertained every ear upon which they fell. Everyone loved Bud and Ruby. He was also proceeded in death by his sister, Louise M. Reynolds and his daughter in law, Frances Reynolds, and all of his generation in the area. He is survived by a son, Corbin “Billy” Reynolds IV of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Anita Wildhaber and husband Frank of Salem, Va; and Jane Lyle and husband Ernie of Bacova, Va; 10 grandchildren, Tim Reynolds, Kevin and Heidi Reynolds, Kenny and Lisa Reynolds, Katherine Reynolds, Theresa R. and Dallas Kiester, Susan and John Holgren, Trina W. and Dale Boitnott, Kathy W. and Ben Bowman, Nicole L. and Neal Kemper and Ernie Lye Jr; 23 great grandchildren; Caleb, Brooke, Kaileigh, Hunter, Haley, Jackson, Miranda, Jessica, Savannah, Corbin, Josh, Brittany, Aaron, Ethan, Anna Maria, Aaron, Ashley, Travis, Heather, Christopher, Kayla, Austin and Summer; 8 great great grandchildren; Raelyn, expected arrival of Zachary, Maggie, Aria, Carlin, Brayden, Avery and Gavin; devoted caregivers, Lisa Osborne; church friends, Cathryn, Tony, Karen and Seth, and numerous extended family members and friends.
