Obituary for Edward Lee Dean

Edward Lee "Ed" Dean, age 97, of 816 Douglas Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at The Highland House Nursing Home, Clifton Forge. Ed was born on May 26, 1919 in Charlottesville, Virginia to the late Elbert Miller and Louise Georgia Wagner Dean. He served in the United States Army Air Force from April 1943 until October 30, 1945 as crew Chief on a C-47, and 9th Air Force Engine Specialist PTW-1830. He was a member of the Burnside-Carpenter VFW Post 4299, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and the George Pickett Camp 1459 in Ettrick, Virginia. He was also a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lynwood Hamilton Dean; two brothers, Aubrey Elbert Dean and Paul Wagner Dean; and a nephew, Thomas P. Dean. He is survived by his son, Dr. Ronald Edward Dean of Richmond, KY; four nephews, John E. Dean, R. Mark Dean, Paul Michael Dean and Reverend Chancellor Hamilton; three nieces, Zoe Ann Dean Haas, Elizabeth Hawkins Sibley, and Martha Hamilton Beverly; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Miller, Linda Heinzman, and Nora Trout; two great nieces, Catherine Dean Wright and Kelly Dean. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday May 24, 2017 at Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge, with the Reverend Lynn Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Clifton Forge. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends and family attending the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at Central United Methodist Church. The family suggests that memorial tribute take the form of contributions in his memory to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 16, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422.
