Edward Gilliam "Gilly" Woodson
Edward Gilliam “Gilly” Woodson, age 92, of 920 Jefferson Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at The Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Low Moor. He was born November 14, 1924 in Clifton Forge to the late Gilliam Nicholas and Bertha Lillian Wood Woodson. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was a retired Train Master for CSX Transportation, supervising the run from Clifton Forge to Hinton, West Virginia. He was a member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon and member of the Men’s Bible Class as well as treasurer of the church’s Endowment Fund for the past twenty years. He was also a member of the YMCA and the Red Cross. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Louise Woodson Baber; a brother-in-law, Powhatan Baber; and two great nephews, Andrew Woodson Baber and Chris Skipper. He is survived by the love of his life, Betty Snead, of Clifton Forge; a brother, Clyde Eugene Woodson and wife Mary Ann of Lakeland, FL; three nephews, Stephen Baber and wife Laurie of Charlottesville, Alexander Baber and wife Mayra of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Ross Woodson and wife Miryam of Virginia Beach; two nieces, Susan B. Darland and husband Edward of San Jose, CA, and Kathy Hantz and husband John of Fort White, FL; and ten great nephews and great nieces. Also surviving is his special friend, John Rader of Roanoke. The family will be receiving friends this Friday evening, May 26, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. There will be a funeral service held next Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Reverend J. Glenn Linthicum officiating, assisted by Pastor Mike Rollins, and Reverend Nathan Smith. Interment will then follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.
