Obituary for Wallace Overton Adcox Jr.

Wallace Overton Adcox, Jr., age 80, of 209 Lynn Haven Circle, Vinton, Virginia died Thursday, August 10, 2017 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke. Wallace was born July 28, 1937 in Clifton Forge to the late Wallace O. Adcock, Sr. and Mary Louise Smith Adcock. He served in the United States Air Force, was a retired Chief Warrant Officer for the United States Army, and served in the Vietnam War. He was also a major for Pinkerton Security at Elizabeth Arden. Wallace was a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge # 171 A. F. and A. M., the Scottish Rite - Valley of Roanoke and was recently honored by the conferral of the 33’rd degree of Scottish Rite Masonry, a member and Past Captain of the Provost Guard of the Kazim Temple, the Roanoke Valley Shrine Club, and the Clifton Forge Shrine Club. He was instrumental in Alcoholics Anonymous in the Roanoke Valley, was a founding member of the Lick Run Hunt Club and Poker Society, and participated in Attic Productions in Fincastle. He was well known for his musical and theatrical performances, and loved golfing, hunting, and fishing. In addition to his parents, Wallace was preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline Unroe Adcox and his second wife, Esther Holdren Adcox. He is survived by his children, Wallace O. “Wally” Adcox III and wife Missy of Winchester and Michelle A. “Shellie” Graham and husband Jeff of Fieldale; a step son, Stewart Holdren of Roanoke and a step daughter, Cindy Bowles of Vinton; a sister, Patricia Adcox Sibold and husband Thomas Sibold, Sr. of Covington; five grandchildren, Orin Adcox, Conal Adcox, Drake Adcox, Merrie-Anniston Graham, and Peyton Graham; a number of step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and a loving companion, Betty Garrett of Vinton. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Msgr. Bennet Dixon officiating, assisted by Pastor Richard Dunn and Mr. Tommy Sibold. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of the Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home with the Covington Masonic Lodge # 171 A. F. and A. M. presenting masonic rites at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Roanoke. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Wallace’s honor to the Kazim Transportation Fund, 628 W. Campbell Ave. SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.
