Obituary for Jack Blaine Hanner

Jack Blaine Hanner, age 82, of 3021 Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Friday, March 16, 2018 at his residence. He was born November 12, 1935 in Guilford County, North Carolina to the late William Carl Hanner and Mary Lee Burrow Hanner. Jack served in the United States Army from 1959-1961. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Greensboro Collage and his Master’s Degree from Appalachian State University and was a retired college professor who taught at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. After retiring from teaching he learned to build and repair clocks. Jack was a member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church where he was the organist for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved his cats, college basketball and he never met a stranger. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shelby Nance Hanner; a brother, C.M. Hanner; an infant brother; and a sister, Janet Arlene Hanner. He is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Vondalese Hanner of Corinth, Texas and Nancy Michele Hanner of Roanoke, Virginia; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend J. Glenn Linthicum officiating. Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Road, Covington Virginia 24426.
