Obituary for Buddy Lee Nicely

Buddy Lee Nicely
Buddy Lee Nicely, 78, of Carrollton, VA passed peacefully on July 25, 2018. He was born on December 24, 1939 in Longdale Furnace, VA (Clifton Forge). He was preceeded in death by his father and mother Charles M. and Ruby V. Nicely, his sister Ella Mae Brackenridge, his wife of 48 years Barbara Hodges Nicely and his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Rainey Vick. Buddy Lee grew up in Clifton Forge, graduated from Central High School in 1958, proudly served in the U.S. Army, then moved to Hampton where met his wife, Barbara, settled down and became a professional delivery driver for UPS and Wilson Trucking. They later retired and moved to Carrollton. Buddy enjoyed Harley-Davidsons, Fords, Volvo Tractors, John Deeres and most anything with an engine. His story telling skills were well known as Buddy never met a stranger. He enjoyed his family, friends and neighbors every day. After all his work was done, just relaxing on his wide front porch and being outside was what he enjoyed the most. Buddy Lee is survived by his step son, Steve Vick of Newport News, two grandchildren Wyatt Lee Vick and Skylar Vick, his aunt Katherine Poff of Roanoke, his cousin Larry Nicely of Longdale, two brothers and sisters-in-law John W. Hodges Sr. and Patricia Hodges and Jim & Vickie Hodges all of Newport News, his nieces Jenny Dean of Williamsburg, Kelly Hodges of Newport News and Sandy Hodges of Newport News and grand nephew and grand niece Wesley Hodges and Kimberly Hodges of Newport News. A funeral service will be held Monday, Aug. 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will visit with friends on Monday afternoon from 12:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
