Obituary for William Michael "Mike" Snead

William Michael "Mike" Snead
William Michael “Mike” Snead, age 54, of 2136 Bainbridge Drive, Salem, Virginia, formerly of Covington, passed peacefully on Monday, August 27, 2018, while at home with family after a long, courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born February 21, 1964 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, the eldest son of Larry and Carolyn Lydiatt Snead. He graduated from Covington High School in 1982 and attended Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, receiving a certificate in Drafting and Design. He worked for Industrial Fabricators before creating JMJ Design with two other partners. He attended New Grace Baptist Church in Roanoke. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, and also loved hiking, camping, kayaking, and mountain biking. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Brian Snead; and grandparents, D. W. “Tad” and Lucille Lydiatt, and Raymond and Irene Snead; and his faithful companion and fishing buddy, “Rudy”. Mike is survived by his wife, Rhonda Potter Snead of Salem; his parents, Larry and Carolyn Snead of Covington; a step daughter, Whitney Clark Delp and husband Zachary of Montvale; two brothers, Jeff Snead and wife Jamie of Michigan, and Craig Snead of Salem; three grandchildren, Ryland Delp, Nora-Lynn Delp, and Boone Delp; and two nephews, Jeffrey and Jeb Snead. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at 5:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Shaun Minnix officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 4:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to New Grace Baptist Church, 1527 Gilford Avenue NW, Roanoke, VA 24017.
