Obituary for Carl David Brinkley

Carl David  Brinkley
Carl David Brinkley, age 80, of 825 Acacia Ave, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Thursday, November 22, 2018 at his residence. He was born May 14, 1938 in Torrington, Connecticut to the late Lewis M. Brinkley and Mary Elizabeth Hardy Brinkley. He worked for the United States Postal Service for forty-two years, retiring as Postmaster of Low Moor, Virginia and served with the Virginia Army National Guard for 30 years retiring with the rank of master Sergeant. He was an Elder Board Member of Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church and Mayor of the Town of Clifton Forge. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Mays. He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette Ann “Jenny” Selvey Brinkley of Clifton Forge, Virginia; two sons, John David Brinkley and wife Robin of Powhatan, Virginia and William Lewis “Bill” Brinkley and wife Amy of Wilmington, North Carolina; a sister, Sarah Rice and husband Sonny of Hampstead, North Carolina; two brothers, Lewis Brinkley and wife Margaret and Richard Brinkley and wife Susie both of Clifton Forge; four grandchildren, Ryan, Colin, Christian and Mary Alice Brinkley and a number of nieces and nephews. In keeping with his wishes, his body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, Clifton Forge with Reverend Paul Brokaw officiating. A private inurnment will follow. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, PO Box 637, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422 and to Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, 544 Church Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422. They would also like to express sincere appreciation and thanks to the Mountain Regional Hospice Center and to LewisGale Alleghany Cancer Center.
