Rachel Ann Wright Lockard, age 87, of Roanoke, Virginia, and formerly of Covington died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Carrington Place Nursing Home in Daleville. She was born February 17, 1930 in Clifton Forge to the late James Millard and Hester Garland Wright. She was a retired co-owner for Buddy’s and Sonny’s Drive In, and a member of Mallow Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. “Buddy” Lockard, as well as eleven brothers and sisters. She is survived by four daughters, Cynthia L. Stephenson and husband Andrew of McLean, Teresa Lockard Loyd and husband Jim of Newnan, GA, Dinah Marie Frey and husband Hans of Alpharetta, GA, and Anne Carol Nichols and husband Randy of Lynchburg; a son, Charles W. “Chuck” Lockard and wife Susan of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Chloe Lockard, Meghann Stephenson, Kayla Stolp and husband Jesse, and Brandon Beckner; a great granddaughter, Adilyn Stolp; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends of the family, Mary and Harold Drumheller of Hopewell. A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor with Mr. Chuck Lockard officiating. Interment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon at Alleghany Memorial Park from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements.
