Obituary for Kimberly Lynn "Kim" Hipes (Walthall)

Kimberly Lynn “Kim” Walthall Hipes, age 56, of 101 Red Hill Drive, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Woodlands Health and Rehab, Clifton Forge. She was born in Hinton, West Virginia on September 5, 1960, a daughter of Betty June Phillips Walthall and the late Marshall Edward Walthall. She was a retired elementary school teacher with the Alleghany County Public Schools, and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Covington and the Alleghany Retired Teachers Association. She attended Glen Wilton United Methodist Church and volunteered at Sharon Elementary School following her retirement. Kim was preceded in death by her father, Marshall Walthall. In addition to her mother, Betty Walthall of Valley Ridge, Covington, Kim is survived by her husband of 35 years, David Vernon Hipes, a daughter, Emily Hipes, a son, Andrew “Drew” Hipes and wife Ashley, and two sisters, Pam Crance and husband Linnie and Sharon Walthall, all of Clifton Forge; a brother, Phillip Walthall and wife Gaye of Vincennes, Indiana; her mother-in-law, Betty Hipes of Clifton Forge; a sister-in-law, Sandi Hartley of Iron Gate; a brother-in-law, Larry Hipes of Clifton Forge; four grandchildren, Hunter Barron, Hannah Hipes, Hallie Hipes and Bryson Hipes; six nieces and nephews; special friends, Anita McGuire and Gayle McIntosh; and her beloved boxer, Lola. The family would like to thank the staff of The Woodlands for their care. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Ray Sandifer officiating. Interment will follow in Locust Bottom Cemetery, Glen Wilton. Active pallbearers will be Larry Hipes, Cheyenne Curtis, Linnie Crance, Tyler Crance, Allen Humphries, Muttsy Tingler, and Steve Hipes. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Interstitial Cystitis Association, 7918 Jones Branch Drive, Suite 300, McLean, VA 22102.
