Obituary for John William Myles

John William Myles, age 92, of 480 Bluebell Lane, Apt 115, Roanoke, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Friendship Health and Rehab in Roanoke. He was born December 25, 1925 in Greenbriar County, West Virginia to the late John Aldine and Ella Mae Hedrick Myles. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the 332nd Engineering Construction Battalion and was awarded three battle stars for his role in Rhineland, Ardennes Forest, and Central Europe. He was an automotive mechanic instructor for Botetourt County Public Schools and a mechanic for Alleghany Motors, a former President of the Clifton Forge Lions Club, and a member of Central United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalie Holliday Myles; a sister, Virginia Bell; a step son, Joe Christopher Wright; and a brother-in-law, Preston Bell. He is survived by his wife, Betty Holliday Myles of Roanoke; a daughter, Peggy Myles Strom and husband David P. of Roanoke; two step sons, John David Wright and wife Bonney of Roanoke, and Jay Timothy Wright and wife Arlene of Rich Patch; a step daughter-in-law, Charlotte Beasley Wright of Beckley, WV; two grandchildren, Christopher Crawford and wife Julee and Timothy Crawford and wife Dawn; nine step grandchildren, John Erik Wright and wife Jessica, Jason Fredrick Wright and wife Nicole, Cpt. Matthew Allen Wright and wife Erin, Amanda Jo Weaver and husband Corey, Emily Michelle Wright, Gregory J. Strom and wife Marie, Jeffrey D. Strom, Timothy C. Strom and wife Andrea, and Tracey Kaplan and husband Bruce; two great grandchildren; eleven step great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Lynn Wright officiating. A private iInterment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. The grandsons and step grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
