Obituary for Mary Williams

Mary Gilbert Mundy Williams, age 91, of 200 Sixth Street, Iron Gate, Virginia died Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at her residence. She was born February 20, 1927 in Proffitt, Virginia to the late Johnnie Lee Mundy, Sr. and Mary Beulah Gilbert Mundy. She was a retired Registered Nurse for Alleghany Regional Hospital and Assistant Postmaster for the Iron Gate Post Office. She was a member of Iron Gate Baptist Church and taught the Ruth Bible Class for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Lawson Monroe Williams, Sr.; a son, Alan Preston Williams, Sr.; three brothers, Dr. Roy Lee Mundy, Johnnie Mundy, Jr., and Jamie Watson Mundy; and two sisters, Jeannette Nichols and Lavinia Sillett. She is survived by four daughters, Janice Carter and husband Gary of Covington, Mary Ann Zadell and husband John of Dublin, OH, Norma Quinn and husband Robert of Simpsonville, SC, and Amy Nicely and husband Jimmy of Rural Retreat; four sons, Ronnie Williams and wife Beatrice of Franklin, WV, Billy Williams and wife Diane of Clifton Forge, David Williams of Franklin, WV, and John Williams and wife Carrie of Covington; nineteen grandchildren, Estee Williams, Carl Williams, Martha Williams, Henry Williams, Alice Williams, Dr. Courtney Jatana, Jennifer Sherman, Leslie McReynolds, Lauren Rosenblutt, Rachel Delserone, A. J. Williams, Andy Williams, Katherine Williams, Michael Persinger, Megan Hasinger, Stacie Nicely, Mary Katherine Nicely, Caleb Taylor, and Cason Taylor; thirteen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 2:30 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Edith Snedegar and Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Carl Williams, Henry Williams, A. J. Williams, Andy Williams, Chazy Nicely, Chris Fisher. Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Nichols and Phil Mundy. The family will receive friends on Monday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home, and other times at the residence.
