Obituary for James William "Jimmy" Bryan

James William "Jimmy"  Bryan
James William “Jimmy” Bryan, Jr., age 77, of 84 Carloover Village Drive, Hot Springs, Virginia died Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Bath Community Hospital in Hot Springs. He was born July 27, 1941 in Bath County to the late James William Bryan, Sr. and Iva McNabb Bryan. Jimmy retired from the Bath County Sheriff’s Department and served as Sheriff of Bath County for over 16 years. He had also worked at the Omni Homestead resort in the transportation department, and more recently in security at Bath Community Hospital. Jimmy was an active member of Life Line Ministries. He was a member of the Hot Springs Fire and Rescue, Co-founder of Warm Springs Mountain Hunt Club, life member of the N.R.A., life member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, and a member of the Retread Motor Cycle Club. He had served in the United States Army, and loved hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson; two brothers, Donnie Bryan and Carl Bryan; and a sister, Betty Jo Bryan. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Frances Pritt Bryan of Hot Springs; a daughter, Crystal Blosser and husband Gary of Weyers Cave; two sons, Richard N. Johnson and wife Dinah, and Jay Bryan and wife Janet, both of Hot Springs; a sister, Patricia Nelson and husband Lynn of Petersburg, West Virginia; a sister-in-law, Gloria Bryan of Millboro; three grandchildren, Brandi Blosser of Northern Virginia, Stephanie Wright of Glasgow, and Jamie Bryan of Hot Springs; five great grandchildren, Ariel Decker, Lilley Lane, Bella Lane, Haley Southall, and Hannah Hamilton; four great-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Life Line Ministries in Mitchelltown, Virginia with Pastor Zack Royer and Pastor Frankie Neff officiating. Interment will follow in Warm Springs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gary Brown, Dr. Jim Redington, Dr. Mike Moran, Dean Sexton, Wayne Bush, Bill Wagner, Robert Plecker, and Jeff Grimm. Alternate pallbearers will be Winifred Smith, Robert Cauley, and Philip Neff. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy May, Smokey Stover, Jon Skaggs, Jay W. Marquardt, Teddy Stanley, officers of Bath County Sheriff’s Department, and members of Bath Community Hospital Security. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 Noon until time of service at Life Line Ministries. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Hot Springs Fire or Rescue, P.O. Box N, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
