Saundra Woodruff-Basnight (Brown)
Saundra JoAnn Brown Woodruff-Basnight, age 62, of Arlington, Virginia, and formerly of Clifton Forge, died Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Capitol Caring Halquist Center in Arlington, Virginia. She was born August 29, 1956 in Clifton Forge to the late John Thomas Brown and Thelma Elizabeth Key Brown. She was a Special Education Teacher for over 30 years who taught in Clifton Forge, Charlottesville, Richmond, and California, where she was twice named Teacher of the Year. Saundra had a special love and soft spot for all kids, but especially those that learned differently. She was a member of First Baptist Church and loved the San Francisco 49er’s football team and Golden State Warriors basketball team. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Key. She is survived by her daughter, Megan Ashlee Woodruff of Arlington; four sisters, Betty Liggins of Roanoke, Ressie Quarles Griffin of Burke, Teresa Williams and husband Gerald of Alexandria, Terri Lynn Brown of King George; two grand-dogs, Kobe and Harper; six nieces and nephews; and 5 great nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the First Baptist Church, Clifton Forge with Reverend Roslyn Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Greg Key, Anthony Bullock, Daryl Moody, Mark Leisure, Brehon Sessoms, Tari Branch, Jonathan Hickson, and Gilbert Davis. The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at First Baptist Church, Clifton Forge. Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements.
