Obituary for Lillie Thurston

Lillie  Thurston
Lillie Mae Scruggs Thurston, age 99, of 1725 Main Street, Alleghany Health and Rehab, Clifton Forge, Virginia and formerly of Glen Wilton, died Sunday, November 25, 2018 at Alleghany Health and Rehab.
She was born September 21, 1919 in Glen Wilton to the late Robert Edward and Fannie Florence Scruggs. She was a homemaker throughout her life. She was a member of the Glen Wilton United Methodist Church and the Glen Wilton Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She loved cooking, and looking after all the neighborhood children.
In addition to her parents, Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Lewis Thurston in 1997, and her daughter, Cynthia Mae Thurston, on November 24, 2018.
She is survived by two sons, , Raymond Lewis Thurston and wife Linda of Bostwick, FL and Franklin Douglas Thurston and wife Kathy of Glen Wilton; six grandchildren, Casena Rae Thurston, Debbie Thurston, Laura Thurston, Brian Thurston, Ray Thurston II, and Russell Thurston; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend and caregiver, Karen Sayers.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Pastor Ray Sandifer officiating. Interment will follow in Locust Bottom Cemetery, Glen Wilton. Pallbearers will be Timmy Keyser, Chris Keyser, Stephen Keyser, Jimmy Childs, Allen Johnson, and Ernie Knick. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Glen Wilton Fire Department, P.O. Box 71, Glen Wilton, VA 24438, Glen Wilton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Glen Wilton, VA 24438, or to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
