Obituary for Richard Wilmer

Richard Alan Wilmer, age 55, of 322 Coaling Road, Troutville, Virginia, and formerly of Clifton Forge, died Monday, December 31, 2018 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. He was born August 5, 1963 in Clifton Forge to the late Rias Jasper “R.J.” Wilmer, Jr. and Margaret Jackson Wilmer. He was a former police officer for the Clifton Forge Police Department and volunteered with the Clifton Forge Fire Department. He attended Clifton Forge Baptist Church and Living Stones Ministries. His passions in life were his family and he loved fishing. He is survived by his wife, Rita Williamson Wilmer of Troutville; a son, Matthew Wilmer and wife Charity of Clifton Forge; a stepson, Anthony Wright and wife Summer of Troutville; three sisters, Brenda Craft and husband Harold of Covington, Linda Baker and husband Roger of Florida, and Wanda Arrington of Richmond; a brother, Kenneth “Buster” Wilmer of Covington; two grandchildren, Rias Wilmer and Ariyan Wilmer; a step granddaughter, Autumn Wright; eight nieces and nephews; the mother of his son, Connie Black of Clifton Forge; his fishing buddy and best friend, Dave Duncan; and special canine companion, “Baby”. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. To celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 4:00 PM at The Life House, on Fairview Heights in Clifton Forge. Refreshments will be provided and everyone is welcome to come. The service will be held by family members, with Pastor Mike Rollins of Living Stones Ministries officiating.
