Obituary for Alvin Durham Sr.

Alvin Thomas Durham, Sr., age 92, of The Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs, Virginia, and formerly of 3332 Cowpasture River Highway, Millboro, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at The Springs. Mr. Durham was born on December 9, 1926 in Bath County, Virginia to the late James and Mary Brinkley Durham. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a retired operator for Hercules, Inc. He was a member of Windy Cove Presbyterian Church, and a former member of Goshen Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Millboro Ruritans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary McCoy Durham; a brother, George Durham; and three sisters, Eleanor Trompen, Carrie Hein, and Nora Lee Perron.
He is survived by two sons, Alvin Durham, Jr. and wife Cindy of Covington, and Randall L. Durham and wife Terri of Newport News; seven grandchildren, Katie and husband Daniel, Erin, Morganne, Taylor, Samantha, Ashley, and Meagan; two great grandchildren, Sophie and Grayson; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Barbara Durham Howell. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Rob Sherrard officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Graveside military rites will be conducted by members of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
