Obituary for Mary Jones

Mary Catherine Murrell Jones, age 97, of 2601 Vassar Street, Low Moor, Virginia died Thursday, January 10, 2019 at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany, in Low Moor. Mary was born October 20, 1921 in Low Moor to the late Henry and Ida Bolden Murrell. She was active in civil work for the War Effort in World War II, and was a Nurses Aid for the former Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital in Clifton Forge. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, where she served as Deaconess, and was a former Superintendent of Sunday Schools and Church Clerk. She was also a longtime treasurer for the Berean Valley Baptist Association. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard William Jones, Sr.; two sons, Stewart Edward Jones and Lee L. Goode; three brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by two sons, Leonard William Jones, Jr. and wife Sylvia of Covington, and James M. “Jimmy” Jones of Low Moor; a daughter-in-law, Linda E. Goode; two grandchildren, Leonard Jones III and Lynnette Renee Jones; three step grandchildren, Debra Goode, Lee Goode, and Helen Goode; fifteen great grandchildren; nineteen great great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Ida Hubbard. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Preston Tyler officiating and Reverend Harold G. Preston, eulogist. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
