Betty Jane Vest Shields, age 82, of 603 Pin Oak Road, Severna Park, Maryland died Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Bright View South River Assisted Living in Edgewater, Maryland. She was born May 1, 1936 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Lawrence Howard Vest and Hursel Bower Vest. She was a homemaker throughout her life and had worked as a dispatcher for a number of years for the National Security Administration. She was Treasurer of the West Severna Park Community Association. Betty had a great love of dogs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. She is survived by her son Timothy Stanley “Tim” Shields of Severna Park, Maryland; a granddaughter, Amanda Elizabeth Shields of Severna Park; a brother in law, Bobby Oakes of Florida; three nieces and three nephews; and special dog companion Priscilla. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Rev. Bill Hartsfield officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends at Nicely Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. until time of the service on Wednesday.
