Condolence From: Patty Graner and University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning
Condolence: Dear Pete and Family, We were so saddened to learn of Denise's passing and are sending our condolences. In my experience, Denise was always so positive, always seeing the good in others, and always with a twinkle in her eye, maybe a bit mischievous. In the work we did together, she saw opportunities, not problems. This attribute alone made her such a valued colleague, coach, teacher and friend. I will be forever grateful to her for the positive example that she was to me and for the impact that she had on students, teachers, the SIM Network in Virginia and elsewhere. She was a very dear colleague and friend and she will be sorely missed.

Condolence: I made a post to Facebook this morning trying to express how highly she was thought of and thought I might just share it here because I want you guys to know how much she was valued by all who came into contact with her. Botetourt County folks, I know you are as stunned and heartbroken as I am about the death of Denise Sprinkle. To use a colloquism, they just don’t come better than her. It’s not only that she was such a tremendous teacher but she “felt” those kids and followed up on their well being long after they left her. They reciprocated; they loved her as a teacher and person. It’s not only that she was so trusted, respected and loved by her co-workers and administrators, but that without trying she simply led us to be better ourselves…a natural leader. One example: I know we all loved those post observation conferences (joking). I really did try to give specific feedback because I felt that was a way to honor the person, that I had paid attention. My bosses sometimes stated that they thought we just checked off the “exemplary” category without really thinking about it. As I was preparing one of those forms for Denise, I kept looking through every single criterion under each category and they were extensive. NO ONE can be exemplary on all of those but I swear she was. So when we sat down to talk, I expressed that…I had not simply checked them off, she just WAS exemplary in all of those areas. CAMS and its community were so lucky to have her in our lives. I’m a little ticked God thought she was needed there so soon but I’m thankful we were able to borrow her and her goodness for the time we had her. On eagles’ wings, Denise!
