Obituary for Lenford Hatcher

Lenford C Hatcher left this earth unexpectedly on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019 while returning from vacation. He was born July 23, 1951 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, the son of Oliver C (Jack) and Geraldine Overton Hatcher who predeceased him. Lenford was a former member of The Main Street Baptist Church where he was baptized.

Lenford graduated in 1969 from Clifton Forge High School where he excelled in athletics and participated in many other activities. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and retired after 21 years with the rank of Master Sergeant. He received several awards and medals for his exemplary service which included a deployment during Desert Storm. Lenny then went on to a career with CSX Railway, retiring after many years in management.

Lenford married the love of his life Shelagh Connolly on July 4, 2003. Together they enjoyed a full active life including travel across the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Mexico and the Caribbean. In his spare time, Lenford played golf, watched his favorite college basketball and football teams, and always maintained his connections with family and friends.

Left to remember a life well-lived and mourn his loss are his wife Shelagh Connolly, his sister Benay Hatcher, his brother Timothy Hatcher, life- long friend Oteria Wallace-Broady and his nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 12:00 p.m in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Roslyn Thomas officiating. In keeping with his wishes, following the service his body will be cremated.

The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Rd, Covington, VA 24426.
