Obituary for Thornton "Punk" Pinckard

Thornton “Punk” Taylor Pinckard, age 78, of 2015 Selma-Low Moor Road, Selma, VA died Saturday June 8, 2019 at Alleghany Health and Rehab in Clifton Forge, VA. He was born January 9, 1941 in Selma Virginia, a son of the late James S and Annie Eva Pinckard. He was a member of the congregation of First Christian Church, Covington and honorary volunteer member, of over 50 years, of the Selma Volunteer Fire Department. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Pearl Hanks Pinckard, a brother, Ledford “Jimmy” Pinckard. He is survived by his two children, a daughter, Lynda Marie Hicks and her husband James, of Clifton Forge; a son, Jonathan Thornton Pinckard and his partner John Alexander Cameron, of Sydney, Australia; two much loved grandchildren, Austin Lewis Hicks and Abby Marie Hicks; two sisters, Laura Meadows and her husband Steve, of Cherokee Forest, Virginia, Netsy Waddell, of Roanoke, Virginia and a sister-in-law, Janie Pinckard, of Selma, Virginia; a number of nieces and nephews; and a number of close friends, Betty Downey, Milton McGrady, Charlie Masters. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, with Reverend Bill Gilliland officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge and other times at the home of Lynda and James Hicks, 600 Douglas Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422. The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions in his memory to the any of the Alleghany County Fire and Rescue Services or the Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, PO Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
