Obituary for Elsie Mae Tolley (Knick)

Elsie Mae Knick Tolley, age 94, of 944 Ingalls Street, Clifton Forge, passed away Tuesday June 18, 2019 at the Brian Center in Low Moor.

She was born September 2, 1924 in Lexington, Virginia, to the late Amos Strang and Celia Chittum Knick. She was a member of Clifton Forge Baptist Church, a former member of the Martha Chapter #21 Order of The Eastern Star in Covington and a retired Clerk from Alleghany Regional Hospital.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Tolley; two brothers, Dean Knick, and Paul Knick.

She is survived by her husband Charles Preston Tolley, three children, Tony Tolley and wife Barb, of Clifton Forge, Brenda Tolley Unroe and husband David H., of Roanoke, William “Bill” Tolley and wife Sandy, of Christiansburg; two grandchildren, Christopher Unroe, and Heather Bowman, both of Roanoke; three step-grandchildren, Erin Kearsley of Orem, UT, Megan Karamanlis of Norwalk, Iowa, and Matthew Burns of Christiansburg; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Bowman, and Trevor Bowman, both of Roanoke; two step-great-grandchildren, Corrick Kearsley, and Torrence Kearsley, both of Orem, UT; a sister, Mary Brogan, of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 24, 2019 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend J. Glenn Linthicum and Reverend Bill Hartsfield officiating. Interment will follow in Kerr’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Lexington.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
