Condolence: How sad to hear of the passing of Mary Litts. She was a friend, mentor and supporter from the first day that I began work in the Alleghany Highlands Public Schools. But there must be great joy in her soul now as she has been released from the confines of an earthly body and has begun her life in glory. Condolence: Mary Litts was one of my doctoral advisees. In addition to my work with her as a mentor, I had the opportunity to work with her as a colleague in accreditation visits and as a consultant evaluating several programs in Alleghany County. Several of those programs effectively addressed student needs and efforts to improve instruction in the county. Those programs were uniformly well conceived and successful in large measure the result of her creative ideas and effective leadership. She was a credit to the school division and the profession. Condolence: Mary Litts became a mentor to us when we came as strangers to Alleghany County to teach at the high school. She remembered our young sons each year with a religious advent calendar. We will remember her as a gracious hardworking teacher and administrator as well as our friend.

Condolence: I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Mary Litts Burton's passing. I remember her being board staff when I was a student, and my mom (teacher Lana Kidd) spoke of her with reverence. I know so many people appreciated her dedication.

Condolence: So sorry to hear of the passing of Mary Litts. She was such a caring person. My children and I spent a lot of time caring for her animals when she needed help. She was also such a help while I taught at AHS. She was a grant writer extraordinaire. She will be missed. Fly high, Mary Litts! You have earned your place in heaven!

Condolence: From the first day I met her, I loved Mary Litts. It was my pleasure to share our days together at Brightview Baldwin Park. I so appreciated her smile and insight. Although my heart dropped when I heard that she had passed, I felt a sense of relief in that I know that her desire to be independent is no longer challenged.
