Mary Alice Laws Sledge, age 89, of The Springs Nursing Center, Hot Springs, and formerly of Clifton Forge, Virginia and New York, died Saturday, July 27, 2019 at The Springs.
She was born January 21, 1930 in Little Washington, North Carolina to the late John and Elizabeth Jones Laws. She was retired from the New York Department of Social Services and was a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, Clifton Forge and also attended Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Covington. She was a member of the Eastern Star in New York.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Sledge and two daughters, Helen Mansfield and Georgette Hardridge.
She is survived by three daughters, Maxine Thornton of Rocky Mounty, NC, and Paulette Carter and Sadiee Sledge, both of Bronx, NY; two sons, Thomas Sledge and wife Yvette of New York and Anthony Sledge of Clifton Forge; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 1:00 PM in Main Street Baptist Church, Clifton Forge with Mr. Greg Scott, officiant and Reverend Preston Tyler, eulogist. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge.
