Obituary for
Richard Dobbs
Howard Richard Dobbs, age 87, of 404 Main Street, and also Riverland Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Sunday, December 29, 2019 at The Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation, Clifton Forge.
Richard was born March 10, 1932 in Rockbridge County, Virginia to the late Sheron Donald Dobbs, Sr. and Myrtle Frances Plogger Dobbs. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was a quality control specialist for Westvaco for forty years. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, where he belonged to the Men’s Bible Class, an honorary member of the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad with over thirty years of service, and a member of the Cowpasture River Preservation Association. He loved his camp on the Cowpasture River, loved fishing, and was an avid Virginia Tech Fan.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a son, Sidney Dobbs; two brothers, George Dobbs and Sheron D. Dobbs, Jr.; and a sister, Loretta Bell Dobbs.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy Critzer Dobbs, a son, Richard “Rick” Dobbs, and a sister-in-law, Dallas Dobbs, all of Clifton Forge; two grandchildren, Kayla Yellman and husband Eric and Nicholas E. Dobbs and wife Jessica; two great grandchildren, Tanner J. Yellman and Grant Peaco Yellman; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. There will be no services held at this time.
The family suggests memorial tributes in Richard's memory take the form of contributions to the charity of your choice.
