Obituary for Gerald Roberts
Gerald Douglas Roberts, age 71, of 3219 Douthat Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Thursday, February 20, 2020 at his residence.
He was born September 14, 1948 in Clifton Forge to the late Preston and Lucille Fleming Roberts. He served in the United States Army through two tours in the Vietnam War. He was a laborer for Singer Furniture Company, and an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Kay Unroe Roberts in 2012; a sister, Pansy Stewart; two brothers, Danny Roberts and John Dale Roberts; and a pet companion, “Sweetie”.
He is survived by four sisters, Diane Smith and husband Marty of Richmond, Judy Barnes of Russellville, AL, and Virginia Colby of Richmond, and Mary Roberts Elliott of Sandston; two brothers, Marty Roberts and wife Terri of Low Moor, and Darrell Roberts of Florida; friends and sisters-in-law, Vera Unroe, Cindy Reid, and Pat Hyler; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge with Reverend Paul Brokaw officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. The family will gather on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home to proceed to the cemetery.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alleghany Human Society, 9313 Rich Patch Road, Covington, VA 24426.
