Obituary for Margaret Rankin Brinkley
Margaret Rankin “Peggy” Brinkley, age 77, of 620 McCormick Blvd, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.
Born April 25, 1942 in Luray, Virginia, Margaret was a daughter of the late John Wilson “Jack” Rankin and Mary Jane Strickler Rankin Brown, the late wife of Curtis Brown. She attended the College of William and Mary and was a graduate of Drew University, receiving her BS in Anthropology. She also attended Columbia University, completing all but two subjects towards her MBA and also graduate work in public health. She was a good business woman throughout her life. She became a Market Research Analyst for Reader’s Digest in the PanAm building in New York City. She later moved from New York to New Jersey, where she served as the office manager for Chromatex. She owned and managed a travel agency and was co-owner of a rental business. She was a member of First Scots Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC and a good wife and mother. She enjoyed reading and collected cookbooks.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis Russell Brinkley of Clifton Forge; two sons, Paul Lewis Brinkley of Clifton Forge and Eric Scott Brinkley of New York, NY and Miami, FL; a sister, Nancy Hall of Richmond; two brothers, John W. “Jack” Rankin III of New Castle and Paul Todd Rankin and wife Leigh Ann of Richmond; two sisters-in-law, Jenny Brinkley of Clifton Forge and Sarah Brinkley Rice; a brother-in-law, Richard Brinkley and wife Susie of Clifton Forge; and her nieces and nephews, John David Brinkley, Billy Brinkley, Tammy Thomas, Kent Brinkley, Linda Kay Lehman, Anne Renee Soumeillang, Andrew Rankin, Kathryn Rankin O'Donnel, and Molly Hayman Costa.
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Woodland Church Cemetery, Millboro with Reverend Paul Brokaw officiating. The family will visit with friends anytime at the residence.
