Obituary for Roy Clinton Gleason

Roy Clinton Gleason, age 87, of Covington, Virginia died Friday, November 6, 2020 at the Alleghany Health and Rehab Center, Clifton Forge.

He was born February 5, 1933 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Michael Edward Gleason and Catherine Burford Gleason. Roy was a 1953 graduate of Clifton Forge High School and served stateside in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired from Westvaco Corp Covington Mill in 1997 as a maintenance oiler. Prior to joining Westvaco, he was a meat cutter for Kroger in Clifton Forge. Roy was also a former member of Covington American Legion Post No. 4.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ann Chaplin Gleason in January 2002; three brothers, Paul F. Gleason, Emmett R. Gleason Sr., and Thomas M. Gleason Sr.; and a sister, Elizabeth Marie Stone.

He is survived by a son, Darrell Clinton Gleason and wife Teresa of Covington; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 11:00AM in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington with Reverend Mike Wingfield and Reverend Jeff Wylde officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Friends may pay their respects at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge during normal business hours.
