Obituary for Earnest Lyle

Earnest Delano Lyle, age 75, of Roanoke, Virginia, and formerly of Bacova died Monday, December 28, 2020 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.
He was born June 12, 1945 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Ivan Bennett and Linda Dandrade Lyle. He lived in Eagle Rock until moving to Bath County in 1967. He was an avid Virginia Tech Hokie fan, Green Bay Packers fan, and New York Yankees fan, He coached youth league football, basketball, and baseball, as well as playing Adult Rec league sports. Ernie volunteered his time freely for many years to the Bath County Meals on Wheels program, the Bath County Christmas Mother program, the Hokie Club of VT as a Hokie Rep, and 4-H activities. He was a member of the Glen Wilton Presbyterian Church. He loved the mountains, quiet, and the people of Bath County.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Reynolds Lyle of Roanoke; a daughter, Nicole Kemper and husband Neal of Blue Ridge; a son, Ernie Lyle, Jr. and wife Karen of Frisco, TX; a sister, Bridget Lyle Martin; five grandchildren, Miranda Lyle, Jessica Lyle, Savannah Lyle, Corbin Lyle, and Jackson Kemper; a special Uncle and Aunt, George and Moi Dandrade, Trinidad, BWI, a number of nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and special friends, Ashby May, Eric Lee, and Bernie King.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 1:00 PM in Lifeline Ministries Church, Hot Springs, with Reverend Robert McRae and Reverend Frankie Neff officiating. Following the funeral service, Interment will be at 3:30 PM in Locust Bottom Cemetery, near Glen Wilton, VA. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 AM at the Lifeline Ministries Church until the time the service begins at 1:00 PM. His body will be at Nicely Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon during business hours.
Pall bearers will be Corbin Lyle, Eddie Swearengin, David C. Bryant, Dean Sexton, Kenny Sexton, David E. Bryant, and John Rogers
Honorary Pall Bearers will be Team he coached and members of teams on which he played.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Bath County Christmas Mother program or to the Bath County Meals on Wheels program in Ernie’s name.
