Obituary for Frances Wolfe
Frances Wright Wolfe, a longtime resident of Clifton Forge, died Sunday, January 17, at her daughter’s home in Ashburn, Virginia.
Frances was born September 25, 1925, in Glasgow, Virginia, to the late Samuel Jordan Wright and Otie Frances Birmingham Wright. Her family moved to her beloved Clifton Forge when she was 10 years old. A member of “The Greatest Generation,” Frances was a graduate of Clifton Forge High School, class of 1943. She then attended and graduated from The Dunsmore Business School in Staunton, Virginia.
After business school, Frances worked as a medical secretary at the Army hospital which was housed in the Greenbrier Resort during World War II. She then worked as a secretary for Dr. Frank Wysor for many years until his retirement. And she worked for more than twenty years for the Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board until her retirement in 1992.
Frances enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, as well as being a member of many clubs and civic organizations. She was a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of Circle #2. She was the founder of the Twilight Garden Club, an organization she held very near and dear, and was also a member of The Woman’s Club, The Red Hat Society, and several bridge clubs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert K. “Snip” Wolfe, and three brothers, George Wright, Charlie Wright, and John Wright.
She is survived by two daughters, Sally Wolfe Sumser (Chas) of Ashburn, and Anne Wolfe Cogar of Clifton Forge. She is also survived by two grandsons, Grant Cogar and Carson Cogar, both of Richmond, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Due to the pandemic, a private funeral service will be held. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church or The Twilight Garden Club.
