Obituary for Peggy Knick

Peggy Louise Dillon Knick , age 87 of Clifton Forge, Virginia, departed her earthly life, from complications of Covid-19, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at The Brian Center Health and Rehab in Low Moor, to join her Lord and Savior and her dearly beloved husband, family and friends that have gone before her.
Peggy was born on September 11, 1933 in Eagle Rock, Virginia, the third child born to John Lusby Dillon, Sr., and Joanna VanNess Dillon. She was raised on a farm in Eagle Rock and graduated from Eagle Rock High School in 1951. She was an avid basketball player in high school and continued to play in the women’s league in Roanoke after graduation. She worked as a supervisor at the sewing plant in Buchanan, Virginia until she married the love of her life on April 17, 1954. Peggy was a homemaker after the birth of her daughter in 1957, and was a great cook with her specialties of fried potatoes and German chocolate cakes that she made for her daughters’ friends. She also was a great seamstress making clothes and lots of majorette uniforms for her daughter and patching baseball uniforms for her son and grandson. She always enjoyed the kids that grew up on Pine St. and Verge St. and her many neighbors, especially her best friend, Kathleen McMillion. Peggy was a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church and a member of the Nettie Paul Sunday School class, but her heart never left the Shiloh Methodist Church in Eagle Rock. She loved watching sports, especially basketball and baseball, her favorites being UVA, Duke, Braves and Yankees. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and friends, working in her flower gardens, and eating at Burger King.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Dewey W. Knick, Sr. in 2003, her brothers, Tommy Dillon and J. L. Dillon, Jr., and sister, Betty Dillon Giordano.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Teresa Knick-Gibson; her son, Dewey (Dink) W. Knick, Jr.; grandson, Douglas Dillon Gibson and wife Shelly; great granddaughter Jordyn Kate Gibson; great grandson, Elliott Dawson Gibson; sister-in-law Audine Dillon of Roanoke; brother-in-law Angelo Giordano of Richmond; and a number of nieces and nephews; her “special niece” Debbie (Doots) Knick Curtis with whom she loved to eat her homemade spaghetti; and her “adopted daughter” Gail Duncan Wallace. The family would like to thank the nurses, the certified nursing assistants, and other staff at the Brian Center that took wonderful care of her over the past few years.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Shiloh Methodist Church Cemetery in Eagle Rock with Reverend Paul Brokaw and Reverend Ray Sandifer officiating. Viewing/book signing will be available during regular business hours at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Shiloh Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Eagle Rock, VA 24085.
