Obituary for Calvin "Griff" Griffin
Calvin Hedrick “Griff” Griffin, age 93, of 115 Lithia Street, Iron Gate, Virginia went peacefully to be with his Lord on March 25, 2021.
Griff was born August 11, 1927 in Bath County to the late Ira and Ada Bennett Griffin. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, retired Fire Chief for the Town of Iron Gate, and former Iron Gate Town Council member. He retired as a route salesman from Coca Cola Bottling Company after 23 years, and as a welder/finisher for Gala Industries after 16 years. He had a witty personality and was a long time member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing, watching football, and spending time with his loved ones. He loved his Lord and was welcomed with open arms at heavens gates.
In addition to his parents, Griff was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Beulah Reynolds Griffin, and three sisters, Katie Bell Griffin, Mary Jane Persinger, and Sally Griffin Falls.
He is survived by his son and daughter- in-law, Allen Lee and Betty Griffin of Roanoke; his brother, Carl Griffin of Woodbridge; 2 granddaughters, Cathy Griffin Crowder (Tony) of Roanoke and Mary Elizabeth Huffman (Gene) of Vinton; and 3 great grandchildren, Makayla Renae Crowder, Madelyn Nicole Huffman, and Jackson Alexander Huffman. He is also survived by niece and devoted sidekick, Rebecca Reynolds Little and niece Janet Griffin Smith, along with a host of other nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Members of the Iron Gate Fire and Rescue Department will serve as pallbearers. The family will visit with friends on Sunday afternoon from 12:30 until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take form of contributions to the Iron Gate Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, P.O. Box 146, Iron Gate, VA 24448.
