Obituary for Carl Swearengin

Carl Lester Swearengin, age 80 of 3297 Deerfield Road, Millboro, Virginia died Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at his home, surrounded by family.
Carl was born September 1, 1940 in Rockbridge County, Virginia to the Late Glen Wilton Swearengin, Sr. and Lillie Susan Ingram Swearengin. He was a skilled farmer and a woodcutter for Wallace-Byers Logging. He was a man of many talents, but hunting and storytelling were a few of the family favorites. He was a member of Rehobeth Community Church of Millboro, and a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed by many. Carl was a “tough ole bird”.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Wilton Swearengin, Jr, Chan Swearengin, and Roy Swearengin; and a sister, Velma Swearengin Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Norma Matheney Swearengin of Millboro; seven children, Lester Swearengin and wife Mary of Wytheville, Marlys Swearengin of Blue Ridge, Roland Swearengin of Hardy, Vickie Lilly and husband Danny of Yadkinville, NC, Brenda Smith and husband Lennie of Roanoke, Sherry Webb and husband Doug of Millboro, and Donald Swearengin and wife Samara of Glen White, WV. Carl was PawPaw to 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Bill Gram officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers will be Josh Webb, Glen Swearengin, Nick Swearengin, Brandon Webb, Justin Webb, Logan Swearengin, Avery Swearengin, Isaiah Swearengin, and Noah Canterberry. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
