Obituary for Frederick Carter

Frederick Samuel “Fred” Carter, age 87, of 1015 Donovan Street, Selma, Virginia went to be with his heavenly father on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 while at The Springs Nursing Center in Hot Springs, Virginia.
He was born October 1, 1933 in Selma to the late Forrest Alonzo Carter and Lucy Jane Warlitner Carter and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a retired electrician for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad and served in the United States Army. He was a lifelong member of the Selma Church of the Brethren and attended Iron Gate Baptist Church frequently.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Aaron Lee Rucker in 2016.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Judith Roymane Folks Carter of Selma; three daughters, Lucy Mays and husband Milton of Clifton Forge, Anna Thomas and husband Bernie of Eagle Rock, and Judith Carter Nicely and husband David (“Charlie”) of Selma; a grandson, Matthew Mays and wife Courtney of Clifton Forge; two granddaughters, Chelsea Mays and Riley Mays, both of Clifton Forge; an adopted grandson, Dustin Russell and wife Megan and their children, Eli and Savannah, of Rustburg; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Barbara Rose of Pasadena, MD and a special nephew, Andrew Reynolds of Covington; and two special ladies from the Selma Post Office, Amy Nicely and Ashley Nicely, both of Iron Gate.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Sharon Baptist Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Active pallbearers will be Casey Thompson, Richard Evans, Doug Morris, Dickie Conner, Christopher Fitch, Allen Humphries, Joey Morris, Wayne Wilhelm, and Joe Coffman. The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 2:30 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of Judith and Charlie Nicely, 1108 Staunton St, Selma, VA.
