Obituary for Ryland Edward Wolfe

Ryland Edward Wolfe, 82, of Clifton Forge, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 7, 2022, at his residence. He was born May 31, 1939, in Alleghany County, Virginia, to Walter E. and Mildred R. Wolfe. He married Marylen Cary on July 7, 1988, and they had been married almost 34 years.
Surviving are his wife Marylen, his stepson James “Billy” (Mimi) Warnock, Jr. of Boones Mill; grandchildren Zachary and Luke Warnock, Kate and Hunter (Casey) Deacon; great-grandchildren Mason and Mia.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Walter and Mildred Wolfe, and one sister, Peggy Blankenship.
Ryland was a loving and devoted husband. He cared dearly for Marylen and always wanted to make sure she was taken care of. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Covington, attending and participating as regularly as he was able. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, camping, and fishing. He was a truck driver for 47 years for Jamison/Whiting Oil Company, which later became PM Transport. He was a hard-working man and could take that tanker anywhere, forwards or backwards and in the smallest of places. He was well-respected by many customers and one who was allowed to deliver after hours. He had a great sense of humor and was a trooper with the shenanigans going on around him when we were altogether. Ryland, also known as Pawpaw, was a kind and humble man. He was easy to please and was so grateful for everything done for him. He had a difficult time with his health since 2018, but he pulled through like a pro. On April 6, he came home from the hospital on Hospice. Even while at home on Hospice, he was easy-going and thankful for the care provided by all. The family is so grateful for the wonderful care provided by Mountain Regional Hospice, especially Pattye and Autumn.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pat McPeek officiating. Interment will take place in Iron Gate Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Billy Warnock, Zack Warnock, Luke Warnock, Buddy Shorter, Eugene Brown, Mike Asma, Joe Bryant, and Roger Hayslett. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, May 11, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Nicely Funeral Home.
