Obituary for Garvin Wayne Thomas
Garvin Wayne Thomas, age 63, La Plata, Maryland died Friday, May 20, 2022.
He was born March 27, 1959 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to Ira Basil Thomas and the late Carrie Sue Murphy Thomas. He was a mechanical engineer for the US Navy, supporting NSWC Indian Head. He thoroughly enjoyed working on cars. He was the jack of all trades, master of none. The mountains surrounding Eagle Rock is where he enjoyed spending most of his time, if not adventuring around the world with his children.
In addition to his father, Ira Thomas of Eagle Rock, Wayne is survived by his daughter, Margaret Thomas and fiancé Jared McCulloch of Washington D.C.; a son, Ryan Thomas of Denver, CO; a sister, Paula Thomas-Shipley and husband David of Salisbury, MD; and a niece, Stephanie Woodhouse and husband John.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 12:00 Noon in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge. Interment will follow in Bethel United Methodist Cemetery in Eagle Rock. The family will receive friends on Saturday morning from 10 AM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Eagle Rock Fire and Rescue (who helped Wayne when he needed it most), PO Box 234, Eagle Rock, VA 24085, or to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore (to help conservation efforts preserve this area that brought Wayne such peace).
