Obituary for William Berkley Persinger

William Berkley Persinger, age 82, of 237 South Royal Ave, Covington, Virginia passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany.

He was born May 17, 1940 in Covington, Virginia to the late William G. Persinger and Sadie Plymale Persinger. He was a graduate of Covington High School c/o 1958 and then enlisted in the Virginia National Guard. He retired from Kroger as a night supervisor/grocery clerk after 42 years. Berkley also attended Mallow Presbyterian Church in Mallow. He belongs to the Covington Masonic Lodge # 171 A.F. & A.M., the Clifton Forge Shrine Club, and was a member of Royal Jesters Court 59. Whenever you need a laugh, you could just hook up with Berkley.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce O’Dell Persinger of Covington; two daughters, Andrea Jennings and husband Bill of New Castle, Julie Gardiner and husband Kelsey of Cumming, GA; four grandchildren, Matthew William “Matt” Jennings and wife, Angel, Nathaniel “Nate” Jennings and wife, Jessica, Haley Gardiner, and Andrew Gardiner; two great grandchildren, Aiden and Easton Jennings; special companions, Max and Katie; a number of nieces and nephews; and special cousin, Doris Wingfield.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Gary Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Nicely Funeral Home with Masonic Rites conducted at 6:00PM.
