Obituary for Ellen Marie Heffernan McCoy

Ellen Marie Heffernan McCoy, age 71, of 1264 Pembroke Road, Williamsburg, West Virginia passed away on Monday, August 22, 2022 at The Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation in Low Moor, Virginia following a long illness.
She was born August 25, 1950 in Medford, Massachusetts, the daughter of the late Fred and Helen “Honey” Farry Heffernan. While attending St. Clements High School, she worked evenings at Transitron Corporation testing integrated circuits. After several years as a quality manager for Analogic Corporation, she worked at Raytheon Corporation during development of the Patriot missile. She then obtained her realty license and worked in that field until she married Phil McCoy and moved to Williamsburg, West Virginia in 1988.
Ellen quickly adjusted to country life and was involved in many activities including rescue squad, Community Action, and numerous fundraisers. She was a member of the Andrew Chapel Methodist Church, manager of the Food Bank, training officer for the Williamsburg Rescue Squad, and CPR instructor. Always eager to accept new challenges, she tried her hand at cooking, bartending, Children’s Shelter monitor, greenhouse tending, retail at the Artist’s Colony, and co-started a housecleaning business. Ellen loved traveling, sailing, kittens, puppies, and Winnie the Pooh and all his friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Heffernan.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Philip Warren McCoy of Williamsburg, WV, a nephew, Michael Heffernan of Myrtle Beach, SC, two nieces, Kelly Heffernan and Amy Heffernan, three great nieces, Taya Swain, Mya Swain, and Trinity Smith, two great nephews, Jason Smith and Isacc Smith, all of Gloucester, MA; aunt, Janet Jackson of Santa Rosa, CA; sister-in-law, Maura Heffernan of Port St. Lucy, FL; numerous cousins; and best friends, Shannon Perry, Carolyn Stephens, and Gloria Owens.
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be announced in the near future.
