Obituary for Johanna "Ann" DeLigt

Johanna (Ann) DeLigt, born August 26, 1931, in Vlaardingen Netherlands, died peacefully at her home September 15, 2022.

The daughter of Paulus and Levina Grroeneveld, she, along with her mother and two sisters endured the Nazi occupation during WWII. She met her husband, John, in Holland and the two were married in 1953. They immigrated to the US in 1956, living in Muskegon, Michigan until they moved the family to Covington, VA in 1965. Ann was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved sewing, knitting, and singing, and excelled at each. She was an active member of Edgemont ARP Church, where she served as choir director for many years. Ann was a member of the Covington Women’s Club and participated in the Alleghany Highlands Chorale and the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council. She worked side by side with her husband of 67 years, supporting his many innovative and creative endeavors.

She is predeceased by her husband John, and her sister Rika Teygeler.

She is survived by her sister Truus Groeneveld and multiple nieces and nephews living in the Netherlands and Germany; as well as her three children- Helena DeLigt (Rob Osborn), Paul DeLigt (Karen), and Trish Dobbs (Glen), six grandchildren (Johanna, Kelly, Gabrielle, Hannah, John, Ivan) and two great-grandchildren (Mikel, Nathan.)

A funeral service will be held Monday, September 19, at 11:00 AM at Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, Va. The family will receive visitors on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor.
