Obituary for Edgar "Randy" Gaines
Edgar Randolph “Randy” Hoke Gaines, age 54, of 1412 Donovan Street, Selma, Virginia died Thursday, September 15, 2022 at his residence.
Randy was born October 6, 1967 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Edgar Raymond Hoke, and was adopted into the Gaines household. He was a self-employed automobile mechanic for over 30 years. He loved motocross racing, reading science fiction, and watching movies. He enjoyed hunting with a cross bow, was an ATV enthusiast, and of the Catholic faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a former wife of 8 years, Marty Gaines; his mother-in-law, Brenda Lee Downey; and a son-in-law, Mario Diaz, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Downey Gaines of Selma; two daughters, Kimberly Dawn Blankenship of West Virginia and Chasity Lynn Gaines of Pennsylvania; a son, Edgar Randolph Gaines, Jr. of Florida; a step daughter, Kimberly Diaz of Florida; a step son, Jordan Downey of Selma; a sister, Christine Powers of Maryland; a brother, Mark Hoke of Winchester; his father-in-law, Bobby Gene Downey of Selma; a sister-in-law, Tammy Downey of Selma; a brother-in-law, Jeff Downey of Warm Springs; a number of grandchildren and step grandchildren, including Richelle Downey and Mario Diaz, Jr.; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dale and Cindy Simmons and family, and Jennifer Hallock and family.
In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, PO Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
