Obituary for Donald Gene Wilson
Donald Gene Wilson, age 81, of 936 Ingalls Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Monday, November 21, 2022 at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.
He was born October 13, 1941 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late George L. Wilson and Mary Katherine Gill Wilson. He was an oilman for Mead Westvaco for over 44 years before retiring. Donald was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church, Moss Run Baptist Church and Immanuel Baptist Church. He was currently an active member of Victory Baptist Church. He enjoyed home building, gardening, woodworking, saw milling, and loved spending time at Peters Mountain Cabin and the Wilson Farm.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, George Leon Wilson; a sister, Alma W. Norcross; and a great granddaughter, Ellie Marie Wilson.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol Spangler Wilson of Clifton Forge; a son, Eugene Wilson and wife, Donna; two daughters, Sandra Wilson Andrews and husband, Bob, and Angela Wilson Thompson and husband, Timmy, all of Covington; a brother, Robert L. Wilson of Covington; two sisters, Mary W. Thompson of Iron Gate and Frances W. Thompson of Covington; 10 grandchildren; a close friend, Jim Simmons; and a number of nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Brandon Nicely and Reverend Bill Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Wilson Family Cemetery, Covington. Pallbearers will be the grandsons. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Victory Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 2, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422.
