Obituary for Susie Jane Bryant (Matheny)

Susie Jane Matheny “Janie” Bryant, 89, of 77 Peaceful Lane, Clifton Forge died Friday, February 10, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Alleghany County, Virginia on July 9, 1933 a daughter of the late Robert Houston and Eva West Matheny. Susie was a cook and expert biscuit maker for a number of years at the Hardee’s of Clifton Forge. She was a member of the Iron Gate Advent Christian Church, loved to garden and especially loved to be with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Edward “Bill” Bryant, a daughter Vickie Webb, a sister Virginia Higgins, 2 half-sisters, Joyce Mace Grant and Frances Anderson and by 2 half-brothers, Jasper Matheny and Frank Byers.
She is survived by 3 daughters and son in law’s; Dedra Rocha and husband Juan of Clifton Forge, Patty Groff and husband Blair Madren of Reidsville, North Carolina and by Terry Webb and husband Bert of Clifton Forge; a son Glen Bryant and wife Kathy of Clifton Forge; half-sister, Joyce Mace of Staunton; 5 grandchildren, Elaina Wright, Reo Garrett, Jessica Webb, Victoria Webb, and Brandon Carver; 7 greatgrandchildren, Zia Wright, Bradley Garrett, Tyler Garrett, Autumn Webb, Catalyne Webb, Jesse James Junior Webb and Eliza Jane Webb; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Janie had requested her body be donated to anatomical science and will be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 6:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Edith Snedegar officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 5:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Janie’s name to the Iron Gate Advent Christian Church. Service arrangements are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home.
