Obituary for Valerie Jane Combs (Vess)
Valerie Jane Vess Combs, age 59, of 221 Fourth Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Monday, February 13, 2023 at her residence.
She was born June 23, 1963 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Claude William Mitchell Vess and Mary Elizabeth Dodd Vess. She worked in the business office at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and loved staying busy at camp ACCOVAC. Valerie loved the lord and loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant brothers; and a sister-in-law, Joan Vess.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell Eugene Combs; a daughter, Heather Combs; a step daughter, Tammy Tyree; a step son, Kevin Combs and wife Pam; a daughter of the heart, Carissa Higgins; five brothers, Michell Lee Vess and wife, Ann, Mark Leslie Vess, Dr. Steven Ellery Vess and wife, Cheryl, William “Kent” Vess and wife, Brenda, and Christopher Shawn Vess and wife, Kelly; eight grandchildren, Khloe Combs, Mackenzie Howard, Samuel Combs, Brett Combs, Bryson Allen, Jamir Higgins, Ambrosia Higgins, and Noah Higgins; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Gene Ayers officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
