Obituary for Glenna Lee Sampson (Sawyers)

Glenna Lee Sampson (Sawyers)
Glenna Lee (Sawyers) Sampson, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on April 15, 2017. Glenna was born on March 24, 1935, the oldest child of Robert Lee and Catherine Virginia Sawyers in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Glenna married her sweetheart Basil LaRue Sampson on November 24, 1951. They were blessed with six children who loved her dearly and will miss her greatly. She was adored by her 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Glenna was a stay at home mother who lovingly raised her children. Those who thought that she didn’t work either didn’t know our mother or didn’t know our family. She was a financial wizard in stretching the family income that was available. Glenna was a master chef who prepared meals that pleased the palates of family and visitors from near and far. Many memories of our mother include food and her kitchen where she was often known as the magician of the kitchen. Glenna was an amazing seamstress who sewed for family and neighbors on request. As a chauffeur Glenna made sure that her children could participate in many activities associated with school and church. Glenna was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she provided service and participated in many activities as a chorister, a teacher, a student and as a compassionate friend. Glenna was the oldest of ten children and was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Irene Iris, Irma Jewel, Dreama Sue, and Catherine Faye. She is survived by her loving husband Basil and children, Doug (Wendy), Debra, Linda Smiley (Jay), Robert (Patsy), Holly Shields (Jason), and Brian (Cameo), and sisters Mary, Loretta, Jeanetta, and brothers Robert and Carby and a Number of Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 18th at 1pm in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, Virginia. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Active Pallbearers will be Max Southall, Ray Lockhart, Jr, Brandon Entsminger, Gene Sampson, Elder Wosniak and Elder Roberts, Honorary Pallbearers are Freddie Tucker, Garland Whiting and Wayne Sampson. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 17 from 6 – 8pm at the Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge.
