Obituary for Dr. Edward Allen

Dr. Edward Allen
Dr. Edward G. Allen, age 89 of 1702 Ridgevue Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Sunday, April 8, 2018 at his home following a short illness. He was born May 5, 1928 in Newark, New Jersey. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward G. Allen, Sr. and Dorothy Allen, and stepmother, Doris Ruehe Allen. He is survived by a loving wife of 67 years, Joan and three children: Michael, living in Clifton Forge, Richard and wife Eileen Elliot in Ossining, NY, Nancy in Portland Maine, and a brother, Donald and his wife Nancy in Annapolis, MD. After graduating from Albany Medical School in 1952, he served as a medical naval officer for three years on the U.S.S. Lenawee. Following his discharge from the United States Navy, he completed a Radiology Residency at the V.A. Hospital in Bronx, New York. He practiced radiology in Morristown, NJ before coming to Clifton Forge in 1970. He then joined the radiology practice of Dr. George Chucker and Dr. Al Finestone. He retired from Alleghany Regional Hospital in 1993, and was a member of various Medical Societies. After retirement, he and his wife Joan enjoyed motor homing to numerous East coast lighthouses. “A man of infinite jest”, he enjoyed many hobbies, including short wave radio operation, acting in plays put on by the local community theatre at Dabney S. Lancaster Community College, attending cooking schools, photography, and generating computer artwork. He was a longtime volunteer at the C. & O Historical Society doing computer work under Mac Beard, a valued friend. His body has been donated to the Virginia State Anatomical Program. Therefore, no funeral will be held. In remembrance, you may donate to the local animal shelter. He was a cat lover all his life.
