Betty Hipes (Anderson)
Betty Delores Anderson Hipes, age 82, of 1900 Oakwood Drive, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Saturday, November 10, 2018 at her residence. She was born February 21, 1936 in Eagle Rock, Virginia to the late Samuel Pate Anderson and Emma Trenor Anderson. She worked as a sales clerk for the former Leggett’s Store, Clifton Forge Cleaners and The Sandwich Shop. Betty was a member of the Iron Gate Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, involved in the Women’s Circle and was on the Pastor Parrish Committee. She enjoyed reading, NASCAR and was a Richard Petty fan, Virginia Tech and collecting Teddy Bears. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Vernon “Buddy” Hipes; a daughter in law, Kimberly Hipes; ten brothers and sisters; and step mother, Mary Crowder Anderson. She is survived by a daughter, Sandy Hartley of Clifton Forge; two sons, Larry Hipes and wife Schuyler, David Hipes both of Clifton Forge; two sisters, Barbara Kern and husband Johnny of Eagle Rock, Delma Lively and husband Harry of Amherst; a brother, Dale Anderson of Eagle Rock; a sister in law, Barbara Hipes of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, Drew Hipes and wife Ashley, Mikki Curtis and husband Cheyenne, Emily Hipes and fiancé Cody Campbell, Midori “Boo-Boo” Hartley, and Bella Dibenedetto; five great grandchildren, Hunter Barron, Hannah Hipes, Hallie Hipes, Bryson Hipes, and Sidney Curtis; a number of nieces and nephews; lifelong friends, Mary Lea Brackenridge, Margaret Jeffries, Belinda Ambrose, and Peggy Dunn; and her loyal companion, Blu. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 2:00PM at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Ray Sandifer and Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in the Locust Bottom Cemetery, Glen Wilton, Virginia. Pallbearers will be nephews and friends, Steve Hipes, Stacy Anderson, Jamie Tharpe, Todd Patterson, David May, Todd Kern and Jacob Anderson. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
