Eleanor Virginia Tingler Harless, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, of 6308 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at her residence.
Eleanor was born May 10, 1926 in Menden, West Virginia to the late Jacob Adam and Virginia Lee Harrah Tingler. She spent her early life as a Certified Nursing Assistant caregiver, and then as a full-time mother. She was a Christian woman who enjoyed being a homebody, fishing, cooking, canning, and gardening, and was known for her green thumb. Her hands were always busy, and during her 94 years of life, they touched and greatly influenced many. Her contagious laugh and sweet smile will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Her son, James Harless built a life dedicated to his mother, which allowed her to live the long life she enjoyed. James’ selfless nature for his mother was adored by Eleanor and all of her loved ones.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John Leslie Harless; a daughter, Virginia Darlene Harless; a son, John Forrest Harless; a brother, Forrest Tingler; a sister, Glendora Tingler; and infant brother, James Tingler; and infant sister, Loretta Tingler; a sister, Mary Malay; a granddaughter, Denise Lynn; a grandson, Jacob Harless, Jr.; a great granddaughter, Abbey Baker; and a great-great grandson, Riley Drummond.
She is survived by 8 children, James Harless of Clifton Forge, Nancy Lee Curtis of Glen Wilton, Jacob Harless and wife Billy-Jean of Covington, Michael Harless and wife LaVonna of Covington, Dennis Harless of Low Moor, Ada Morrison and husband David of Clifton Forge, Mary Westbury and husband Paul of Clifton Forge, and Debbie Myers and husband Wayne of Covington; a sister, Helen Blair and husband Henry of Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and a number of great great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 2:00 PM in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington. Interment will immediately follow. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is handling arrangements.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Rd, Covington, VA 24426.

Dear Cousins, thinking of you all today. Tookie was a good women/mother. I smile when I think of her biscuits and what a hard worker she was. I know you will miss her but you can look around you and see the love she had for family and the love she had for all of you. I don’t get out much now days for my health reasons so my memories fill my void. In thinking of the love she had for you makes me smile. In the days ahead my prayers are with you and I know your thoughts of the same love and memories will give you smiles also. Love y’all, Libby 570-2709 and home 540-261-9225.
